The Creative Industries Conference kicks off at Al-Assad National Library

Damascus (ST): The Creative Industries Conference, which is being held by the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the Higher Commission for Scientific Research and the Syrian Virtual University, kicked off  on Wednesday at Al-Assad National Library in Damascus.

“The conference aims at shedding light on the concept of creative industries which receive great interest by decision makers and workers in creative fields, particularly in culture,” Minister of Culture Lubana Mushaweh said in a speech during the opening ceremony.

She pointed out that the conference also aims at highlighting research in the creative industries, the elements of success and the importance of these industries in social, economic and cultural development.

“Creative minds are abundant in Syria and incubating creativity and creative production is one of the important goals the ministry is working actively to achieve and develop to turn it into a sustainable organized industry that supports all-out development,”the minister added.

She pointed out that recent statistics indicate that creative economy contributes to the gross global Production by 3% and it engages around 30 million people around the world.

The minister affirmed that the conference is important for drawing the future of dealing with intellectual and artistic creativity being one of the elements that support all-out development in Syria, hoping that the conference will come up with some recommendations that help build a base for prosperous creative industries
