The Left Party in Germany has called on the German government, the European Union and the United States to lift the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria, stressing that these unfair measures have exacerbated the suffering of the Syrian people and impeded reconstruction in the country.
Commenting on these unfair measures, head of the party’s parliamentary bloc at the Foreign Affairs Committee Sevim Dagdelen said in a statement of which the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) received a copy on Monday that “the Syrian economy has been affected and stopped to a large extent due to the war which has been continuous since 2011 and due to the western sanctions”.
“Energy and water supplies have collapsed in many places,” she added.
Dagdelen pointed out that the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warns that partner humanitarian organizations in Syria are still unable to provide life-saving and sustainable aid; because of the serious lack of funding despite the growing need.
She called on the German coalition government to stop supporting these measures, because of their dire consequences for the Syrian people, who urgently need support to face the winter.
