Arab Agro Forum addresses food security

AMMAN, Dec.6, (ST)_ The Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) is taking part in the Arab Agro Forum, which kicked off on Sunday in Amman to address ways of achieving food security and resilience for small and medium scale farmers in the region.

The Director General of ACSAD, Dr. Nasr El-Din El-Obaid stressed in his speech the importance of the forum in discussing procedures, policies, activities and programs that must be worked on to achieve food security.

The three-day forum aims to review challenges facing the Arab region as well as opportunities and available solutions, including the Strategy for Sustainable Arab Agricultural Development 2020-2030, according to media reports.

The forum will also address opportunities for climate financing, investment in sustainable agriculture and the role of the private sector in sustainable agricultural development.

Overpopulation, wastage of agricultural resources and climate change are the main challenges facing the agricultural sector in the Arab world.

These challenges have brought the food security crisis to an alarming level, which could take an unprecedented turn.

This challenge requires enhanced cooperation between nations as well as the adoption of preventative measures to confront threats to national, regional and global food security.
