A bazaar held to showcase the hand-made works of the inmates of two social care institutes in Damascus

The Syrian Society for Social Development on Saturday held a bazaar showcasing the hand-made works of the inmates of the Khaled bin Al-Walid Institute for Juvenile Care and the Institute of Social Education for Girls at the headquarters of Wathiqat Watan (Homeland Document) Foundation in Damascus.

The event was held in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and Wathiqat Watan under the title “We make hope happen with our heritage”.

The bazaar exhibits the inmates’ products, including handicrafts, accessories, embroideries, woolen works and wood paintings.

Director of the project at the Syrian Society for Social Development Maria Al-Turjman told SANA that the bazaar aims at shedding light on the abilities and skills of the inmates and at giving them a chance to be effective persons in society.

She pointed out that the Social Development Society holds many educational and entertainment activities for the inmates and provides them with psychological and social support as well as vocational training.

For his part, Wael Saleh, Director of the Khalid bin Al-Walid Institute, said the inmates are trained during the week days so that they can benefit from their free time in enhancing their capabilities and skills.

Mona Masoud, Director of the Institute of Social Education for Girls, said in a statement to SANA that girls are selected and distributed according to their talents and desires.

It is to be noted that the Syrian Society for Social Development was established in 2009 and it works in different Syrian governorates to support small-sized businesses.
