Shukri to Pedersen: The need to ensure the extension of Syrian sovereignty over all its lands

Rome (ST): Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri reaffirmed his country’s firm position on the crisis in Syria, stressing the need to support efforts for a political solution to the crisis in Syria in accordance with Security Council Resolution No. 2254, in a way that guarantees the extension of its sovereignty over all its lands and preserves the independence of its decision.

According to a statement issued today by Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “Shukri reaffirmed, during his meeting with Geir Pedersen, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria, on the sidelines of their participation in the Rome-Mediterranean Dialogues Forum in the Italian capital, on the constants of the Egyptian position regarding the crisis in Syria, which is represented in the need to support efforts for a political solution to the crisis in Syria in accordance with Security Council Resolution No. 2254, in a way that guarantees the extension of its sovereignty over all of its lands and preserves the independence of its decision, as well as alleviating the suffering of the brotherly Syrian people.”
