The Iraqi Minister of Labor discusses with Al-Dandah the affairs of Syrian expatriate workers

The Iraqi Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, discussed with the Syrian Ambassador to Baghdad, Sattam Jadaan Al-Dandah, ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the fields of work and social affairs.

Ambassador Al-Dandah said: The meeting confirmed the depth of the historical relations between Syria and Iraq, and the necessity of upgrading bilateral cooperation in all fields to higher and better levels, for the benefit of the two brotherly peoples.

Al-Dandah explained that the affairs of Syrian workers in Baghdad were also discussed, and the need to organize them and solve the problems of violators of residency conditions with easy procedures.

Al-Dandah added: The discussions indicated the importance of addressing the restrictions that prevent workers from entering Iraq due to the controls for granting visas, pointing out that the Iraqi Minister of Labor welcomed this very much, and it was agreed to form a committee that includes the Iraqi Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, and the Residence Department in the Iraqi Ministry of Interior to implement that.

For his part, Minister Al-Asadi stressed, according to a statement by the Iraqi Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the importance of organizing expatriate workers and settling their status legally, especially those who entered Iraq illegally, pointing out that expatriate workers will be subject to the retirement and social security law for workers, as well as the labor law, and based on a decision the Council of Ministers employs 50 percent of the national workforce, with the corresponding expatriate workers.
