Iran urges the Security Council to condemn the Zionist entity’s attacks on Syria

New York (ST): Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Erwani, urged the UN Security Council to condemn the Zionist entity’s aggression and terrorist attacks on Syria.
During the Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East and Syria, Erwani said, “The practices of the Zionist entity and its repeated violation of Syrian territory and its targeting of people and civilian infrastructure, especially attacks on airports and ships carrying humanitarian aid to this country, are a violation of international law, international humanitarian law and the Charter of the United Nations,” stressing Syria’s legitimate right to defend itself in accordance with international conventions.
Regarding the developments in northern Syria, Erwani said, “Security and stability can only be achieved in northern Syria by preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity and fully respecting them,” considering that any military aggression in this region would challenge humanitarian issues and worsen conditions.
The ambassador and permanent representative of Iran referred to the difficult humanitarian situation in Syria and stressed that “the unilateral sanctions imposed by Western countries make conditions, especially in the field of public health and food security, more difficult,” pointing to the failure of the international community to provide humanitarian aid to this country.
Erwani considered that ending foreign occupation and restoring full respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria is a precondition for any political solution to the crisis in it, reiterating Iran’s condemnation of the theft of Syria’s natural resources, especially oil products, in areas occupied by foreign forces in a criminal act that is a clear violation of United Nations resolutions and its Charter.
