The heavy rainfall that Al-Hasakah witnessed during the previous two days led to the flow of Al- Khabour River in the area between Tal Tamer district and Al-Hasakah city for the first time during the current season.
Director of Water Resources, Engineer Abdul Aziz Amin, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the rate of water flow in Al- Khabur River course in the aforementioned area was 25 cubic meters per second, due to the flow of water in the valleys and streams that are located near it, especially in the Jabal Abdul Aziz area west of the city of al-Hasakah. However, the flow did not last long and continued towards the southern dam, because rain water did not flow into the main tributaries of the river, such as the Zarkan and Jarjab rivers.
Engineer Amin stressed the importance of the torrential rains in strengthening the underground water stores that need rain water after a year in which the governorate suffered from drought, which led to a decline in the stores of all the governorate’s dams and the level of groundwater storage.
It is noteworthy that the storage volume of the Martyr Basel Dam, south of the city of Al-Hasakah, currently amounts to 89,600,000 cubic meters, out of a maximum storage volume of more than 600 million cubic meters.
