Abu Dhabi (ST): Syria’s karate team won two gold medals on the first day of the West Asian Championship for men, women, youth, juniors and girls currently being held in the United Arab Emirates, with the participation of the teams of Bahrain, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Yemen, UAE and Saudi Arabia, in addition to Syria.
The two medals were won by Maria Al-Halawi, in the under-42 kg category, in the under-14 years’ category, and Layal Salman, in the over-48 kg category, in the under-14-year category.
In a statement, the head of the Karate Federation, Jihad Maya, confirmed that our team prepared to participate in the championship in a closed training camp in Damascus that lasted ten days. On the external level, we will spare no effort in achieving medals for raising the flag of Syria high and playing the precious national anthem on the podiums.
