A Syrian doctor invents a device to build the front of the lower jaw and chin automatically and in a circular motion
Damascus (ST): Doctor Khaled Al-Awf provided the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery in Syria with a new patent, which he obtained by inventing a device for building the front of the lower jaw and the chin in a one- and two-sided circular motion.
On the mechanism of operation of the device, Dr. Al-Awf, a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery, explained that the device, made of titanium, allows building the entire lower jawbone and chin, and builds its soft tissues in the event of its loss without the need for bone grafts or artificial reconstructive materials.
The device, which took about seven years to complete and follow-up experimentation, according to Dr. Awf, builds the bone on its own for the front of the lower jaw and chin in a circular motion. It is one-sided and two-sided, and is aesthetically, functionally and anatomically compatible with the face, and therefore it helps all patients who suffer from an injury in the front of the jaw and chin. As a result of traumatic injuries and pathological accidents, as well as war injuries and even as plastic surgery.
The device is installed inside the mouth and is removed when the bone building is finished, as the duration of this ranges from two to four weeks, according to Dr. Al-Awf, who indicated that the device achieved success rates of up to 100% when it was applied to a number of patients, and that this new device is the first of its kind locally and even globally, because it builds the bone in a circular motion, and it is considered a global precedent, and it was contacted to register it in the name of Syria through the European Office of the International Organization for Intellectual Property (WIPO).
