A gold, three silver and two bronze medals for Syria in the International Mathematics Championship

Latakia (ST): Syria won a gold medal, three silver and two bronze medals in the International Mathematics Championship (Online International Math Challenge), which was held remotely in Thailand.
The Director of Lattakia Education, Omran Abu Khalil, stressed in a statement to news reporter the importance of this achievement as evidence of the Syrian presence in the scientific arena despite the conditions of war, siege, and unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on it, referring to the role of the directorate through continuous follow-up, permanent supervision, and providing logistical support to the participating team, including securing gathering places, providing communications, the Internet and other requirements.
The scientific supervisor at the Center for Applied Physics and Basic Sciences, Basil Sultan, in turn, said: The preparations for this competition began more than two months ago, as the best seven contestants were selected out of dozens of affiliates of the center after passing a standard written exam that was formulated by the scientific committee at the center.
Sultan explained that a remote training program was prepared for the team members, due to their presence in several governorates, with a focus on a set of points, namely: skills and strategies for solving, speed, and sound English language, followed by a test exam, the results of which were very promising.
Sultan continued: The competition, which was held remotely on the 19th of this month, with the participation of 8,000 contestants from all over the world, included solving 40 questions within an hour and a half as a maximum, and preference is given to whoever solves the largest number of questions correctly within the shortest time.
