19th International Meeting on Syria in Astana format kicks off
The 19th International Meeting on Syria in Astana format kicked off this morning in the Kazakh capital.
The Syrian Arab Republic’s delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Soussan held talks this morning with the Russian delegation, led by Alexander Lavrentiev, the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Special Envoy to Syria.
The two sides reviewed the latest developments in Syria as well as the topics listed on the agenda of the international meeting.
Lavrentiev affirmed Russia’s support for Syria’s unity and territorial integrity, stressing the need to avoid any acts that would escalate the situation.
He hailed the efforts being exerted by the Syrian government to maintain stability in the country, saying that Russia supports greatly these efforts.
For his part, Soussan asserted that Syria supports Russia’s special military operation to protect Donbas and its right to take all necessary measures to defend itself against the NATO aggressive policies which don’t only pose a threat to Russia but to security and stability in the entire world.
Soussan talked about the situation in Syria, particularly the country’s counter-terrorism efforts, and about the US and Turkish aggressive and provocative practices that violate the international law and the Syrian sovereignty.
The Syrian and Russian delegations also discussed other topics, including the issues relating to the humanitarian side and the constitutional committee.
