Iran: Zionist entity is the main obstacle to establishing a Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction

Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir Saeed Iravani has stressed that the Zionist entity is the main obstacle facing the establishment of a Middle East Free of Weapons of Mass Destruction (MDW).

Fars News Agency quoted the Iranian diplomat as saying on Tuesday during the 3rd session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Free of Weapons of Mass Destruction that Iran continues with its policy regarding the complete destruction of the weapons of mass destruction, including its official suggestion to establish a zone free of nuclear weapons in the Middle East.

Iravani added that spreading lies and rumors about Iran’s nuclear issues won’t only serve the parties that make such rumors, but it will divert the world attention away from the main threat that prevents the establishment of a Middle East free of Weapons of Mass Destruction, which is the Zionist entity.

He expressed Iran’s dissatisfaction over the failure of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conferences in 2015 and 2022 and the failure of the Fourth Review Conference of the Chemical Weapons Convention in 2018, reiterating that such failures indicate that the process of establishing a Middle East zone free of weapons of mass destruction has not been supported.

He called for forcing the Zionist entity to join the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and for inspecting this entity’s nuclear activities by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
