During his participation in the ministerial round table at the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Makhlouf said that Syria has developed a plan to adapt to climate change that addresses the sectors of agriculture, water resources, energy, and forest protection.
Eng. Makhlouf referred to the climatic phenomena that Syria and neighboring countries are witnessing in an unprecedented way, such as the lack of rain, drought, desertification, forest fires and sand storms, the negative effects of which were increased by the practices of terrorist organizations and their supporters from the American and Turkish occupations.
Makhlouf added that the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the West have hindered the supply of requirements and equipment to these plans and banned financing and bank transfers. He indicated that Syria needs in these circumstances to benefit from international financing funds, especially Green Climate Fund and Adaptation Fund to be able to transfer clean technology and capacity building.
