The Minister of Agriculture discusses with the President of the Mediterranean Federation for Beekeeping the control of the Varroa parasite
Damascus (ST): The Minister of Agriculture, Eng. Mohamed Hassan Qatana, discussed with the President of the Mediterranean Federation, Vincenzo Panettiere, and Professor of Bee Health at the University of Rome, Dr. Monica Vercelli, the experiments that are being implemented to control the Varroa parasite on bees, using varying proportions of oxalic acid.
The Minister reviewed the feasibility study of these experiments and their impact on the ground in combating this pest, and the possibility of applying them to limited cells in the beehives affiliated with the ministry in the governorates where bees are dispersed, especially in the coast, Homs, Hama, Aleppo countryside and Ghouta Damascus, pointing to the need to develop an integrated program to combat this plague at the level of Syria, in order to achieve actual benefit for breeders.
The minister pointed to the importance of cooperation with organizations to exchange experiences and scientific research, in a way that serves the agricultural sector and farmers in Syria and achieves development.
The head of the organization explained that the experiment was implemented in the areas of Al-Tal and Barzeh orchards, and its results were presented soon, and it will be implemented in other governorates in different environments within the conditions specified for them.
