“You Are Not Alone”, a youth initiative targeting people with disabilities in Daraa

The Department of Ecumenical Relations and Development in the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East, in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, launched a youth volunteer initiative targeting people with disabilities in Daraa Governorate, entitled “You are not alone.”
The coordinator of the Social Welfare Center in the Department of Ecumenical Relations and Development, Abdul Rahman Issa stated that the youth team chose the Institutes of Special Education for Mental Disability and the Deaf and Dumb affiliated with the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor to implement their initiative, which targeted about 70 children with disabilities and 25 caregivers through activities Isolating and cleaning the surroundings of the two disability institutes, planting the garden and making educational aids that benefit the institutes and caregivers of children with disabilities, which will positively affect the home rehabilitation process.
Issa indicated that the initiative included providing a series of recreational and awareness activities, especially personal hygiene for children, with the distribution of uniform winter clothes for all children.
One of the mothers called for launching vocational training initiatives for people with disabilities who are over 14 years old and also called for training courses for mothers to help them support their families, such as weaving or sewing courses.
