“You Are Not Alone” a youth initiative targeting persons with special needs in Daraa

The Department of Ecumenical Relations and Development at Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have launched a voluntary youth initiative, titled “You Are Not Alone” targeting persons with special needs in Daraa province.

Coordinator of the Social Care Center at the Department of Ecumenical Relations and Development Abdul Rahman Issa told SANA that the young volunteers have chosen the Institute for Special Education of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and the Institute for the Deaf and Dumb, which both are affiliated to the Directorate of Labor and Social Affairs, to implement their initiative that targets 70 children with disabilities as well as 25 care providers.

The initiative included different activities, like cleaning up the vicinity of the two institutes, planting their gardens and making education tools, in addition to several entertainment activities that enhance the awareness of the persons with disabilities.
