The Syrian girl Sham Al-Bakour has won today the title of champion of the Arab Reading Challenge, which is being held by the United Arab Emirates in its sixth edition this year, in which Syria is participating for the first time.
The seven-year-old girl, Sham, competed for the title along with 18 participants representing 18 Arab countries.
The Arab Reading Challenge competition, which began 6 years ago, requires reading 50 books as a preliminary condition to enter the competition. 22 million students from 92,000 schools in various Arab countries and communities around the world participated in this year’s edition.
Yesterday, the girl, Sham expressed her feeling of pride for representing her country, Syria, despite her young age, and for being its ambassador in mastering the Arabic language and holding the title of Challenge Champion at the local level.
The participation of the girl, Sham, received local and Arab media attention, as she is the youngest contestant in the challenge. To encourage the girl Sham, a number of Dar Al Salam School students gathered today and watched, via video, the ceremony of announcing the final results in the Arab Reading Challenge competition held in Dubai.
The coronation ceremony was attended on the Syrian side by the Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabbaa.

The students of Dar Al-Salam School in Damascus gathered in support for Al-Bakour in the Arab Reading Challenge.
