Russian and Jordanian Foreign ministers stress the necessity of preserving the territorial integrity of Syria

Amman, (ST) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated the need to preserve Syria’s territorial integrity and to resolve the crisis in it politically.

Lavrov said during a press conference with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi in Amman on Thursday:” We discussed regional and international issues, paid special attention to the situation in Syria, and stressed the need to preserve its territorial integrity, respect its sovereignty, and the right of its people to decide their future away from any external interference. We discussed finding a political solution to the crisis in it, and the need to activate the entry of humanitarian aid into Syria in accordance with United Nations resolutions.

With regard to the agreement to export grain through the Black Sea, Lavrov stressed the importance of implementing its provisions in full. He pointed out that his country resumed its participation in the agreement after Ukraine signed guarantees that grain lanes would not be used in any military actions.

For his part, Safadi stressed the need to support efforts aimed at reaching a political solution to the crisis in Syria, respecting its sovereignty, territorial integrity, eliminating terrorism, and ensuring its security and stability.
