Tehran, (ST) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, and his Iranian counterpart, Hussein Amir Abdullahian, affirmed that the relations between Syria and Iran are strategic and based on mutual respect. They stress that there is a common endeavor to strengthen them in various fields, especially the economic one.

Miqdad added that the visit to Tehran comes as a follow up on consultations between the two countries in various fields of cooperation, and to renew Syria’s support for Iran in the face of the attack launched recently by the United States and “Israel” and their tools . “The aim of this attack is to destabilize Iran and tryto change its positions towards issues in the region and the world”, he added.
Minister Miqdad pointed out that the West is targeting Syria and Iran to undermine their positions in rejecting attempts of domination but these conspiracies will fall because they contradict the will of their people.
Miqdad stressed Syria is confident that the Iranian people stand with the Syrian government, and will not to allow terrorism to penetrate again into another country as Syria has suffered from these attempts.
Miqdad indicated that he discussed with Abdullahian bilateral relations and the need to develop them in various fields. He pointed out that this is a consistent policy in the history of relations between the two countries since the success of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979.
Miqdad stressed that hypocrisy, forgery and methods of extortion followed by Western countries are what created terrorist organizations.
Al-Miqdad said that we do not distinguish between (ISIS) and (Jabhat Al-Nusra) and those who support these organizations, and we look forward to Turkey to prevent these organizations in order to prove that it is against terrorism.
Miqdad added that the United States continues to support and protect separatist militias and loot the region’s wealth, He expressed Syria’s thanks to friends, especially Iran, for what support they provide to meet Syrian people’s needs.
Al-Miqdad pointed out that the world is facing a real food crisis today, stressing the need not to rely on the promises of the West and not to beg for it to it feeds other peoples, because it practices policies aimed at starving and killing peoples.
In response to a question by SANA reporter, Al-Miqdad said that what Western countries practice today is in line with their continuous policies and approach since colonial times through suppressing peoples, occupying and colonizing countries and looting their wealth. He added that these countries try to impose economic sanctions on countries that refuse to obey their dictates, foremost of which are Syria, Iran, Russia and China. Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and others.
Miqdad reiterated Syria’s support for Iran’s position in the ongoing talks on reviving the nuclear agreement. He expressed hope for the success of the next round of talks, and for Western countries to back down from their blackmail and their unconstructive positions in this field.
For his part, Abdullahian said that we discussed means of enhancing cooperation in all fields, especially economic and trade, to serve the interests of the Iranian and Syrian peoples, and increase their ability to confront illegal sanctions imposed by the West. He pointed out that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries has increased significantly compared to last year.
Abdullahian said that it was agreed during the talks to hold a meeting of the joint higher committee for economic cooperation between the two countries in the near future. Abdullahian added that various issues were discussed on the regional and international arenas.
