Algerian Ambassador: Syrian-Algerian relations are distinguished, deep-rooted

Today, Algeria celebrates the 68thanniversary of the Algerian Revolution (War of Independence). On this occasion the Algerian Ambassador to Syria Lahsan Tuhami stressed that the Syrian-Algerian relations are deep-rooted and distinguished due to the popular cohesion and common history of the two countries and peoples.

In a statement to SANA, Tuhami said that the bilateral relations were enhanced through the heroic, humanitarian and intellectual activities of Emir Abdul Qader Al-Jazairi during his stay in Damascus and through the Syrian people’s supportive stances towards the Algerian leadership and revolution for liberation.

“The Algerian revolution continues to be present in the conscience of the Algerians and in the memory of struggling peoples, including the brotherly Syrian people,” Tuhami affirmed, pointing out that the Algerian national anthem used to be sung at Syrian schools for many years in support for the independence of Algeria, and “this gives the celebration on the revolution anniversary on the Syrian soil a special importance”.

He added that the values of the Algerian revolution of November 1954 will continue to be the source of inspiration to all the Algerians and that the liberation process of this revolution has become an example to be followed by the peoples in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The revolution has been the source of the Algerians’ strong determination. It is still alive in their memory which is filled by the images of the convoys of the martyrs whose sacrifices protected the homeland and led to its independence, the Ambassador went on to say, noting that the revolution has perpetuated the values of freedom, equality among the peoples and contributed to supporting peoples’ right to self- determination.

Tuhami clarified that celebrating the Algerian Revolution’s anniversary has special importance this year as it coincides with the country’s preparations for holding the 31st Arab Summit which aims at strengthening the unity of the Arab nation in defense of its national causes, mainly the Palestinian cause.

He explained that Algeria in coordination with a number of Arab countries, has intensified efforts to support the Palestinian reconciliation and it will continue working to push forward the efforts aiming at finding political solutions to the crises in the region.

Tuhami reiterated his country’s adherence to the principles of its foreign policy based on respecting the independence and sovereignty of countries and non-interfering in their internal affairs and resolving crises, disputes and problems through peaceful means, dialogue and reconciliation away from military solutions and foreign agendas.

He also affirmed Algeria’s commitment to the principles of the international law and the UN Charter, clarifying that today the world needs to choose dialogue and adopt the values and approaches of the non-aligned countries as the best way to solve the crises and protect the international community from the destructive impacts of these crises.
