Multiple projects and activities to confront climate change on National Environment Day

Damascus, (ST) – “Together to counter climate change” is the slogan for the celebration of National Environment Day this year. This day is an opportunity to review the annual and strategic goals and plans in order to protect the environment from deterioration in light of climate changes, in order to achieve sustainable development of resources, according to the Deputy Minister of Local Administration and Environment Moataz Duhji.

Duhji said in a statement to a SANA reporter that the central celebration of the National Environment Day, which falls on November 1 annually, starts this year from the city of Al-Maliha in Eastern Ghouta, which has suffered from terrorism to encourage the people of the area to rebuild it. He called on all displaced families to return to their towns to participate in the reconstruction and cultivation of their lands.

Duhji pointed out that there are multiple works and projects that the ministry seeks to implement in cooperation with local and international partners to reduce environmental deterioration, drought, desertification and dust storms that have begun to strike the region.

Deputy Minister of Local Administration and Environment also referred to what Syria suffers from the impact of the terrorist war and the unjust siege, which negatively affected all sectors, especially the environment.

Duhji indicated that this year’s slogan was adopted to adapt to the negative effects of climate change through the optimal investment of capabilities to overcome these impacts and the economic conditions that Syria is going through, and to support livelihoods in the most affected areas.
