Maintenance of ships in Banyas port, hard work to accomplish in the shortest time and lowest costs

Tartous (ST): With his own tools and within his workshop in the port of Banyas, and with the help of experts and technical workers from the city, Jalal Taha continues his work in the maintenance of ships that frequent the port, specifically for this purpose, due to the rich reputation of workers there for the proficient performance and quick completion of such works.

Taha, who has been working in shipbuilding and maintenance since 1995, told news reporter that the last ship entered the port recently called (Nova 1) and maintenance work is currently being carried out for it, and it underwent a full inspection to find out the maintenance work it needs, and the cleaning work has been completed.

Taha pointed out that the current maintenance work of the ship provides about 60 job opportunities, referring to the fact that that facilities provided by the Ports Directorate to return to the completion of these works motivate the ship owners to rebuild their ships in Syria because the time period for completion is shorter and the cost is lower.

In turn, the captain of the ship, Omar Haddad, praised the experience of ship maintenance workers in Syria, including Jalal Taha, who supervised the repair work and with him about 200 workers, referring to  the low prices and wages of repair in Syria in comparison with other countries.

Haddad referred to the facilities provided by the Directorate of Ports and Shipping Agencies, in addition to the speed in completing the work, calling on ship owners to return to repair their ships in Syria, indicating that they could perform maintenance operations in Greece, Cyprus or Egypt on the itinerary of their ships, but they prefer to conduct these operations in the port of the country, especially with the announcement of the port of Banyas about the resumption of maintenance and repair operations for some types of ships in it.

The director of Banyas Port, Colonel Muwaffaq Ibrahim, said in a statement to news reporter that the ship that entered Banyas port bears the name (Nova 1) with a length of 96.88, a width of 17.80 and a carrying capacity tonnage of 5,000 tons for the purpose of repair and maintenance.

Regarding the procedures taken for the entry of ships to the port, Colonel Ibrahim said: “As soon as the captain or the agent submits a request to enter the port of Banyas, we, as an official body, provide all the necessary facilities so that the captain can enter his ship and perform the necessary maintenance operations, as well as to facilitate the entry and exit of the workshops from the port.
