DAMASCUS, Oct.25, (ST)-Syria renewed its call for the establishment of a new international system that respects the Charter of the United Nations and puts an end to the practices of the Israeli occupation and the crimes it commits in the occupied Arab lands, noting that the Western countries’ lack of loyalty to the principles and purposes of the Charter and their adoption of a policy of aggression and double standards led to the United Nations being moved away from its normal role.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement on the occasion of United Nations Day, a copy of which was received by SANA today: The countries of the world celebrated the United Nations Day on October 24, as its charter entered into force on that day in 1945, and despite the conditions of Syria at the time, it signed the Charter of the United Nations after Syrian representatives participated in drafting and enriching its content, principles and purposes.
The Foreign Ministry added: At that time, as a result of the atrocities committed by the Nazi and fascist forces during World War II, the countries of the world resorted to drawing up the Charter to prevent wars, and the inadmissibility of interference in the internal affairs of countries, and the prevention of aggression, with the aim of establishing a world based on the principles of justice and equality for all.
Unfortunately, the Western countries’ lack of loyalty to the principles and purposes of the Charter, their policy of aggression, colonialism and double standards, and their looting of the wealth of developing countries led to the the United Nations being moved away from its natural role.
The Foreign Ministry concluded its statement by saying: Syria calls, as it has repeatedly, for the establishment of a new international order that respects the Charter of the United Nations, ends the policies of colonial hegemony, puts an end to the practices and crimes committed by Israel in the occupied Arab lands, and paves the way for a new world in which peoples enjoy their rights where democracy prevails in international relations with sustainable development available in all parts of the world.
