With the participation of 200 doctors, the opening of the annual scientific conference for diabetes in Aleppo
Aleppo (ST): With the participation of 200 doctors from the Syrian governorates, the activities of the annual scientific conference on diabetes, organized by the Ministry of Health and the Syrian Diabetes Association, were opened at the Sheraton Hotel in Aleppo.
In his speech, Assistant Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Dhamireh indicated the importance of holding the conference in light of the rapid progress in various medical sciences, and being informed of recent developments with the aim of exchanging experiences between participants and medical workers to develop their performance and provide them with information, which will reflect positively on improving public health and helping patients heal.
He referred to the ministry’s strategy to support the rehabilitation and continuing medical education sector to ensure the best levels of integrated medical care for patients, and enhance communication and cooperation between various sectors, to activate local expertise in the field of diagnosis and treatment.
He added: The number of diabetes patients in Syria reached 190,988 by the end of last June, as they receive free treatment through specialized centers distributed in various governorates, and insulin medications and oral hypoglycemic drugs are provided to them.
In a statement, the organizer of the conference, Engineer Basil Harfouche, explained that the conference is being held for the first time in the city of Aleppo, during which doctors will present six sessions over three days, which include talking about the latest new scientific technologies in the field of prevention, nutrition, and modern methods and medicines for the treatment of diabetes.
The President of the Syrian Diabetes Association, Dr. Amal Harfouche, said: The conference contributes to gaining new scientific experiences and knowledge, through its lectures that deal with various aspects of diabetes, methods of treatment and prevention, and pointed out that her lecture focused on what is new in European medical conferences, and the most important developments in the field of diabetes and its treatment methods.
Head of the Cancer Department at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Nawras Jaafar, indicated that her lecture dealt with the relationship between diabetes and cancer, and talked about the importance of sugar in the body in low quantities.
