Young Doctor Khaled Ghanem voted “Most distinguished young pediatric oncologist in the World for 2022” 

Damascus (ST): The International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP) has chosen the medical director of the Basma Specialty Unit, Dr. Khaled Mustafa Ghanem, as the most distinguished young pediatric oncologist in the world for the year 2022 in the presence of an elite of pediatric oncologists from around the world. 

The selection of Dr. Ghanem was based on his important contributions at the local, regional and international levels in pediatric oncology. He contributed with the Basma Specialized Unit team in achieving the vision of the Basma Association’s management for unit expansion , which led to doubling the number of admissions with the establishment of multiple quality improvement programs to provide the best medical service possible for Syrian children with cancer. 

On the regional level, Dr. Ghanem is one of the main personalities in the Middle East region in this specialization. He said that he was recently chosen to chair the scientific committee of the Conference of the Pediatric Oncology Group in the Middle East, which is planned to be held in the Omani city of Muscat in March 2023. 

On the international level, Dr. Ghanem explained that he is one of the doctors participating in the World Health Organization initiative to improve the cure rate in children’s tumors around the world to 60 percent by 2030, and in the St. Jude’s Global Alliance, which includes more than 100 centers specializing in children’s tumors around the world.
