Restoration of Al Safina House Association in Old Damascus

During the years of the terrorist war on Syria, the headquarters of “Al-Safina House” Association, which cares for people with intellectual disabilities, was exposed to a lot of damage as a result of the fragments of terrorist shells. Despite this, the association’s activities and interest in this category of people did not stop. Experts in the field of restoration from the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums took part in the reconstruction and maintenance of Al-Safina House in old Damascus.

This humanitarian and cultural work brought joy to the hearts of the residents of Al-Safina House, Rima Absi, said in a statement to SANA reporter.  During the visit of the First Lady Asma Al-Assad last year to Al-Safina House exhibition, which is the product of the association’s workshops, she was briefed on the damage to the house, and the effects left by the fragments of terrorist shells and she was the main supporter in restoring and maintaining it. The cadres from the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums also prepared integrated studies for restoration and maintenance work.

Absi pointed out that Al-Safina house provides accommodation and full services to people with mental disabilities, and they are subject to a life program like other families.

Al Safina House Association, which was founded in 1995 by Mrs. Rima Moussalli, aims to provide full attention and care for people with intellectual disabilities, according to the association’s director, Fadi Murad.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam, a number of ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Syria, the restoration team from the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums, and activists in the humanitarian field.
