An accelerated return of the industrial and crafts sector, with government support equal to approximately 45 billion pounds
The industrial and crafts sector has not been far from the large contributions to the gross domestic product. The industrial sector has been the backbone of the economy in terms of great productivity and increased material return on the one hand, and achieving a kind of stability for the local market on the other. This is a very important issue according to the Ministry of Industry, which sought during the crisis and after the liberation of some industrial areas that were subjected to sabotage and destruction at the hands of armed terrorist * gangs, to provide all services, facilities and elements of return from material, technical and other support for the return of thousands of crafts and industrial facilities to the field of work, based on the government’s reliance on the sector’s contributions to economy. The industrial sector, both public and private, participates in the gross domestic production. The industrial sector further participates in activating the cycle of the production process, as the value of the financial contributions provided to the establishments and crafts that returned to the field of work has been estimated at more than 45 billion pounds during the first half of this year.
With regard to the industrial and craft establishments that returned to the field of work, their number has been estimated at 187 during the mentioned period of 2022 with a capital of 3.3 billion pounds, while the number of industrial establishments licensed according to Law no.21 reached 506 establishments with a capital estimated at 48 billion Syrian pounds, of which 219 are actually implemented, with a capital of 17 billion pounds.
In the field of rehabilitating the industrial public sector, work has been done to rehabilitate the Tal Salhab Sugar Company and the yeast factory in Homs Sugar Company. Studies have been initiated to rehabilitate and operate Al-Shahba Cement Factory in Aleppo and to follow up on the implementation of the investment contracts signed with the private sector to rehabilitate and develop yeast and cement companies in general. Advanced stages of work have been reached as preparations are going on for the launch of the agro-food industrialization project, which takes a large part of government attention in order to achieve the integration of the industrial and agricultural sectors and absorb production surplus of agricultural crops. This all is anticipated to achieve economic feasibility and material benefit on all fronts of business destinations.
