Al-Mouallem holds talks with his Iranian, Iraqi and Cuban counterparts

NEW YORK, (ST)_ Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Walid al-Mouallem, has separately held talks with his Iranian, Iraqi and Cuban counterparts.

The talks held today in New York zeroed in on the latest developments at international and regional arenas including issues of the chemical weapons , Geneva 2 conference, the Iranian nuclear file, and the threats posed by terrorist groups, particularly the so-called the ‘Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant’ plus al-Nusra Front, to the region, according to the official news agency.

Bilateral ties were also debated in the gatherings.

Once again, al-Mouallem underscored in the gatherings his country’s adherence to meet all of its obligations related to joining the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) besides readiness to participate in Geneva 2 conference.  

The foreign ministers of the three countries –Iran, Iraq and Cuba- welcomed the Russian-US deal on chemical weapons and stressed that dialogue is the only solution to the ongoing crisis in Syria.

 It is noteworthy that al-Mouallem headed the Syrian delegation to participate in the 68th general debate at the UN General Assembly in New York.
