United Nation calls on rich countries to fulfill their commitments on climate change

Kinshasa, (ST) – The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres has called on the leaders of rich countries to participate widely and fulfill their financial commitments in the climate summit that will be held in Egypt in several weeks.

The United Nations News Center quoted Guterres as calling in a press conference held in the capital of the Congo, Kinshas yesterday, for world leaders to participate at the highest levels in the twenty-seventh session of the Conference of the Parties, which will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. He called these leaders to prove through their presence and effective participation that climate action it represents the highest global priority and informs the world about the climate actions they will take at the national and global levels.

Guterres added that the collective commitments of the G20 governments are few, too late. He said that the world needs clarification from the developed countries about their position this year, with regard to providing $ 100 billion annually from their promise to support Climate action in developing countries.

In conclusion, Guterres warned that the world is in a life-and-death struggle for safety and survival. He stressed that this is not the time to point fingers or stand idly by.
