Al-Hamwi: COI’s draft resolution on Syria biased and selective

Geneva, (ST)- Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Dr. Faisal al-Hamwi has confirmed that the new draft resolution of the international Commission of Inquiry (COI) on Syria is biased and selective.

”Today, we have a new draft resolution that is biased and selective, whose supporters have refused any kind of cooperation and constructive contribution offered to them by the delegations…a resolution that has overstepped the jurisdictions of the Organization of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the UN Security Council and a number of humanitarian organizations,” Dr. al-Hamwi said on Friday in a statement delivered before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Al-Hamwi added that the draft resolution centered on the International Commission of Inquiry which was illegally founded and “has been pursuing a policy of bias and falsification for two years, depending on bogus testimonies and mass media lacking credibility.

“The Commission has repeatedly stressed that it obtained information confirming the involvement of many sides in the crisis. Even so, it continues to focus its campaign and accusations just on the Syrian government remaining reticent about the crimes of the key instigators of killing in Syria, mainly, the US, Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia”, al-Hamwi continued.

Dr. al-Hamwi added ”We have advised the Commission to stick to neutrality and integrity. Nonetheless, it remained heedless to Turkey that has opened 900 km joint borders with Syria to tens of thousands of foreign mercenaries and al-Qaeda members to infiltrate into Syria and kill its people, and further providing a cover up to Qatar that has paid billions of dollars to arm and train those mercenaries and. when realizing its failure, it involved Saudi Arabia in carrying out the mission”.

Al-Hamwi confirmed that Syria has received the Commission’s chief in June 2012 hoping that dialogue will herald the establishment of mutual understanding. Instead, he continued to show hostility towards the Syrian people ignoring the role of terrorism breeders in his reports.

“A month ago, we extended an invitation to the UN investigator Carla Del Ponte to visit Syria, but the Commission’s chief has prevented her. Such position reminds us of his attitude regarding her brave statements last May when she accused the armed terrorist groups in Syria of using sarin gas and how he rushed to refute them due to pressures he was subjected to’.’

Al-Hamwi declared that Syria will not acknowledge any resolution that it is not consulted about whose patrons refuse opinions and wise amendments  of the other Council members.

”It is sheer hypocrisy that these countries feign sorrow for the sufferings of the Syrian people, while at the same time they are arming mercenaries and takfiris, inciting foreign military intervention to destroy Syria,” Dr. al-Hamwi clarified.

Syria reiterates its readiness to cooperate with the Commission as long as it maintains neutrality and credibility and disseminates information on the reprehensible role of the prime instigators of killing and violence in Syria, al-Hamwi concluded.

Al-Hamwi appealed to the Council’s member states to vote against the draft resolution to prove to their people that they do not condone terrorism and patrons and that they are supporting every constructive dialogue and genuine peace efforts.
