Social Affairs and Labor Ministry is looking into reactivating technical cooperation with the International Labor Organization

Beirut (ST): The Deputy Minister of Social Affairs and Labor for Labor Affairs, Muhammad Firas Nabhan, discussed  with the Director of the Regional Office of the International Labor Organization, Ruba Al-Jaradat, cooperation in the field of resuming the activities of the International Labor Organization in Syria.
The meeting included a discussion of a number of issues related to the resumption of the activity of the International Labor Organization in Syria, and an agreement to expand the plan to open a project office in Damascus, resume the organization’s work in Syria, and build the capacity of workers in the social protection and social security system.
Nabhan underlined the importance of the Organization’s support for Syria, especially at this stage, in order to meet the requirements of recovery in the labor sector in general, and achieve more disciplined flexibility to protect workers’ rights.
In turn, Jaradat referred to the importance of accelerating the opening of a representative office for the Organization in the Syrian capital, Damascus, in coordination with the Organization’s administration in Geneva, stressing the Organization’s desire to resume technical cooperation and work in Syria to achieve more integration of technical expertise in the International Labor Organization with the activities related to the labor market and the labor sector that are being implemented with partner UN agencies, in preparation for the start of preparing the ground for the resumption of their activities in Syria.
