Islamabad (ST): The National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan said that the floods caused by heavy monsoon rains in the country have killed 1,638 people and injured 12,865.
Xinhua quoted the authority as saying in today’s report: “588 children and 332 women have been among the victims of monsoon rains and floods this season since mid-June, and Sindh province in the south of the country was one of the most affected areas, with 747 deaths recorded, followed by Balochistan province, where 323 dead were confirmed, while the northwest province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 306 deaths.
The report indicated that the floods also caused the destruction of 2049532 houses and the death of 1120261 head of livestock, and damaged 13074 km of roads and 410 bridges in different parts of Pakistan.
