Abdollahian to Griffiths: International Relief Agencies must work to deliver humanitarian aid to the Syrian people
Iran’s Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdollahian and the UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths on Tuesday discussed the situation in Syria, Yemen and Afghanistan.
During a meeting on the sidelines of the 77Th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Abdollahian stressed that the international relief agencies must focus their assistance on the Syrian people as to alleviate the their suffering from the impacts of the terrorist war and the unfair blockade by delivering humanitarian aid to the Syrians to secure their basic needs.
Regarding Yemen, Abdollahian said that the United Nations must also work hard to lift the unfair siege imposed on the Yemeni people and to support effective political dialogue between all the Yemeni parties with the aim of maintaining the ceasefire.
As for Afghanistan, Abdollahian said that around 5 million Afghani migrants are living in Iran without receiving any humanitarian aid from the United Nations.
On his part, Griffiths hoped that an agreement will be reached to deliver humanitarian aid to the Syrian people and to citizens in other countries.
