Al-Miqdad to Guterres: Some countries should not obstruct the implementation of Resolution 2642 regarding early recovery projects

On September 25th, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, discussed with the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres a number of issues on the agenda of the international organization and the challenges it faces, as well as aspects of cooperation between Syria and the United Nations.

Guterres indicated his determination and commitment to work to ensure the financing of early recovery projects, especially electricity, which is one of the most vital sectors, and that he will communicate with the countries concerned in this regard.

In turn, Minister Miqdad expressed his thanks to the Secretary-General for this position, explaining the negative effects left by terrorism and the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people

He stressed the need for some countries not to obstruct the implementation of the content of Security Council Resolution No. 2642 regarding early recovery projects.

He spoke about the practices carried out by the American occupation in northeastern Syria and the Turkish occupation in its northwest that are contrary to the charter and international law .

He pointed out that the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory not only violate international law, but endanger security and stability in the region and the world.

He called on the United Nations to shoulder its responsibilities in putting an end to these aggressive Israeli practices.

Minister Miqdad also met with Geir Pedersen, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria.

The two sides discussed a number of aspects related to the situation in Syria, including the efforts of the United Nations in facilitating the Syrian-Syrian dialogue.

The meeting was attended by Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, Director of Organizations Department Rania Al-Hajj Ali, Al-Hakam Dundee, Deputy Permanent Representative, and Ihab Hamed from the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
