The rehabilitation and restoration works of the Umayyad Mosque, the old markets of Aleppo, and the archaeological houses inspected

Aleppo (ST): Minister of Tourism, Eng. Muhammad Rami Martini, and Dr. Lubana Mushawah, accompanied by a cultural tourism delegation from the Syrian community in France, were briefed on the restoration and rehabilitation works of the Great Umayyad Mosque in Aleppo, the Al-Habal, Ahmadiyya, Saqatiyah and Harir markets, Pistachio Square in the Old City, Dor Ajqbash, Zamaria, Beit Ghazala, Al-Hatab Square and the Virgin Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church.

In a statement to reporters, the Minister of Tourism indicated the importance of the historical, urban, economic, cultural and tourism value of the old Aleppo markets and the return of commercial, service and tourism activities to work in them again, noting the restoration and rehabilitation work that was carried out by the hands and local national expertise, which restores the gleam to these markets in accordance with international standards for restoration and rehabilitation after they were damaged by terrorism.

Martini stressed the need for field follow-up of the positive outcomes of Decree No. 13 concerning the old city and markets in Aleppo, Homs and Deir Ezzour and its role in giving small, medium, large, investment and tourism projects great importance, encouraging investors abroad to return and invest in culture, heritage and history, and returning the tourism culture product as it was to receive tourists.

In turn, the Minister of Culture referred to the restoration and rehabilitation work of the Umayyad Mosque and the old markets of Aleppo, which were reconstructed thanks to the strong patriotic will of the people of Aleppo and Syria, which is a source of pride.
