BRICS countries stress the need to resolve crises peacefully and the need to reform the United Nations
New York (ST): The BRICS group stressed the need to adhere to the principles of respecting the sovereignty of states, resolving crises and conflicts between countries peacefully, and the need to reform the United Nations.
In a statement issued by the annual meeting of the foreign ministers of the BRICS countries “Russia, China, India, Brazil and South Africa”, which was held yesterday on the sidelines of the work of the United Nations General Assembly, the ministers reiterated the need to commit to respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries and to adopting a peaceful solution to differences and disputes between countries from through dialogue, consultation, and support for all efforts that lead to a peaceful settlement of crises.
The statement rejected the double standards method in combating terrorism and extremism, calling for expediting the finalization and adoption of the Comprehensive Convention to Combat International Terrorism.. It also stressed the need to refrain from imposing any coercive measures not based on international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
The statement stressed the need for a comprehensive reform of the United Nations, including its Security Council, with the aim of making it more representative, effective and efficient, and increasing the representation of developing countries in it so that it can respond appropriately to global challenges.
