On the sidelines of the 77th  session of the United Nations General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, discussed on Wednesday with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jehon Bermov issues on the agenda of the Non-Aligned Movement, which Azerbaijan is currently chairing.

During the meeting, the two sides stressed the need to strengthen the movement’s work with regard to issues of concern to member states and to increase coordination between its states in various international forums in order to serve the common interests of its members. The two sides also underlined the need to move forward in integrating parliamentarians and youth into the framework of the movement’s activities.

Minister Al- Miqdad also met with Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh, and they discussed the challenges facing developing countries and how to unite efforts to confront these challenges, especially in light of the tense international situation caused by Western countries. The two sides highlighted the need to build a multi-polar world based on respect for international law, non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and respect for their sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

Minister Saleh expressed his country’s support for Syria’s efforts in combating terrorism and confronting unilateral coercive measures, especially that Eritrea is also subject to similar measures. The two ministers stressed the need to strengthen bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.

The two meetings were attended by Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh and Wahab Hamed, from the office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
