Bones of a mammoth killed by ancient humans found in Russian Yakutia

Archaeologists in the Russian Republic of Yakutia have found the bones of a mammoth that was killed by an ancient human in the Churapachinsky region in the far north-east of Russia.

Russian TASS news agency reported that archaeologists from the Institute for Human Research and Indigenous Issues at the Academy of Sciences in Yakutia discovered the remains of an ancient mammoth elephant, after specialists and workers in the Churapachinsky region found bones presumably dating back to the Pleistocene era, which began 2558,000 years ago and ended 11,700 years ago. The specialists conducted a survey of the area in which it was planned to build a road linking the villages of Arilakh and Kitanakh.

Excavations conducted later by archaeologists resulted in the discovery of fragmented traces of the mammoth elephant, the woolly rhinoceros and the ancient bison bull. The bone remains also contain traces of hunting activity of ancient humans who used various tools.
