Ottawa (ST) – The Russian ambassador to Canada, Oleg Stepanov, confirmed that the attack, which targeted the Russian diplomatic mission in Ottawa a week ago, was a terrorist act.
“The Russian embassy in Ottawa was attacked, which we consider to be a terrorist attack, and fortunately there were no casualties or damage,” Stepanov was quoted as saying by TASS news agency. Noting that a protest note was sent to the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to demand a thorough investigation into this incident, hoping to arrest and punish the attacker who threw the Molotov cocktail.
The Russian ambassador indicated that there had been several cases in the past in which foreign objects were thrown into the embassy grounds, and repeated calls were made to the Canadian authorities to provide the mission’s offices in Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto with the necessary escorts and measures to provide immediate protection.
Yesterday, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the Canadian ambassador to Moscow, Alison Le Clare, in protest at the attack.
