Vienna, (ST) – Yesterday, the Austrian capital Vienna witnessed a mass protest against the sanctions imposed on Russia, which led to a rise in energy prices.
According to Russia Today (RT), the demonstrators called for the resumption of the North Stream 2 project to transport gas from Russia to Europe, the restart of the related gas pipeline, and the abolition of unilateral sanctions against Russia.
Austrian Energy Minister Leonora Gevisler had earlier refused to support the proposal to impose a top fixed price on Russian gas. The Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg did not rule out the possibility of gradual lifting of European Union sanctions against Russia.
It is noteworthy that several countries in the European Union witnessed in recent weeks demonstrations against the current economic conditions.
