The Association of Gas Service Operators of Europe reported that the European Union reduced this September the rate of pumping gas into underground storage by 13.5 percent in monthly terms, with the intensification of the energy crisis resulting from Western sanctions on Russia and the cessation of pumping Russian gas to Europe.
The RIA Novosti news agency quoted the association as saying today: “The pumping rate is growing by 0.32 percentage points per day, compared to 0.37 percentage points in August, and during that time some countries continue to draw net gas from underground reservoirs.”
It is noteworthy that since the beginning of autumn, more gas has been withdrawn from “underground” reservoirs than was pumped into them. Among these countries are Belgium, Denmark and Poland, and according to what the European Commission said in summer, underground reservoirs usually provide between 25 and 30 percent of the gas consumed in Europe in winter.
