Al-Miqdad receives copies of the credentials of Brazil’s Ambassador and WFP’s representative to Syria

DAMASCUS, Sep.8, (ST)- Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Faisal Al-Miqdad received on Thursday a copy of the credentials of Andre Santos, the ambassador of Brazil to Syria.

The Minister also received the credentials of Kenn Crossley as a representative of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to Syria.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the two sides stressed the importance of building on the historical relationship between Syria and the WFP to deliver aid to the Syrian people.

Al -Miqdad stressed the program’s key role in helping Syrians, pointing to the need to add to the assistance programs more support for early recovery, especially electricity and water projects, as stipulated in UN Security Council Resolution No. 2642.

He considered that Syria, had it not been for the unilateral coercive measures imposed on its people illegally and inhumanely, and the destruction left by armed terrorist groups, the practices of occupation, attacks and the theft of wealth practiced by the US in the areas it occupies, would have been a model for the whole region in development as it was before the war.

For his part, Crossley affirmed his pride in this opportunity that was granted to him to work in Syria, considering that his responsibility is great to build on the achievements that have been achieved in the past and to push for more work to deliver aid to the Syrians in an optimal manner.

He was briefed on the priorities of the Syrian government and the aspects of cooperation that can be built upon, thanking the Syrian side for the support that the program enjoys in its work in Syria. He also stressed his aspiration to cooperate with the Syrian government to expand the work of the program.

As for the meeting between Al-Miqdad and the new Brazilian Ambassador to Syria, SANA reported that the two sides talked about the deeply-rooted relations between Syria and Brazil and keenness on developing cultural, economic, political and social fields and enhancing coordination at all levels regarding issues of common interests.
