Damascus Governor, Director of WFP’s Southern Region Office review mechanism of distributing aid

DAMASCUS, Sep.7, (ST)- The Governor of Damascus, Muhammad Tariq Krishati,  discussed with the Director of the Southern Region Office of the World Food Program (WFP) in Syria, Samantha Shattaraj,  ways of joint cooperation, relief work, and the mechanism for distributing aid and services provided by the program in Damascus.

The discussion, which was held today, dealt with the programs and strategies related to the WFP office’s activities and the segments it targets through aid and electronic vouchers, and work to expand them to reach the largest segment of beneficiaries, in addition to working on replacing food baskets with electronic vouchers later obtained by the beneficiaries from stores.

Krishati stressed the governorate’s readiness to provide all forms of support and facilities for the work of the program and its humanitarian projects, and the need to increase support for the neediest families and for aid to reach those who deserve it, pointing out that electronic vouchers organize work better, contribute to reducing corruption, and allow beneficiaries to choose the goods they want.
