The launch of the first maritime conference in Tartous

On September 3rd, the Arfad Center for Local and International Commercial Maritime Arbitration launched  its first maritime conference in Tartous.

A number of those interested in the maritime transport sector and lawyers from several Syrian and Iraqi governorates participated in the conference.

The Executive Director of Arfad Center, Lawyer Muhammad Haider, said that the center is the first to provide its services in the field of maritime arbitration, which requires them to provide an advanced arbitration result that is compatible with international developments in the field of maritime disputes, contracts, collision and marine pollution.

The Director of Tartous Port and the representative of the Minister of Transport at the conference, Engineer Muhannad Ismail, said: “The conference constitutes a step that reflects the great interest in the strategic vision for developing and strengthening maritime arbitration.”

He stressed that the Ministry of Transport is looking forward to providing all support and assistance for all steps that serve the development of maritime transport and push it towards further progress .

The representative of the Minister of Justice, Judge Saleh Ghanem, indicated that the conference on maritime commercial arbitration comes in line with the objectives of the Ministry of Justice in raising the scientific and professional level of arbitrators.

He said that the Ministry has always agreed to organize such conferences, workshops and seminars.

The activities of the first day included a series of lectures on logistical support and supply chains presented by the Executive Director of the Syrian National Shipping and Logistics Association, Lawyer Elias Daoud, in addition to a lecture on electronic arbitration and its positive role in maritime transport and shipping operations, presented by Dr. Judge Muhammad Khaddour, and a lecture on the basics of international maritime trade transactions in English was presented by Mr. Maytham Muhammad.

The conference activities will continue until September 5thand include a set of specialized lectures on maritime arbitration.
