Foreign Ministry: Syria condemns Israeli violations against Palestinian prisoners and affirms its support for the cause of every Palestinian prisoner and detainee
Syria condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli violations of human rights to which the Palestinian prisoners are exposed at the hands of their Israeli tormentors and expressed its support for the cause of every Palestinian prisoner and detainee who pays the price for facing the brutal occupation.
An official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stated today: The Syrian Arab Republic is following up the tragic conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons.
The source added: Syria condemns in the strongest terms the grave violations of human rights that these prisoners are subjected to at the hands of their Israeli tormentors, which are based on systematic policies and methods of physical and psychological torture and deprivation of appropriate health and medical care, which in many cases led to the death of a number of them as a result of medical neglect and deprivation of the basic living needs, including food, summer and winter clothes. The occupation practices include solitary confinement, withdrawal of confessions under pressure, physical and psychological torture, prohibition of family visits, deprivation from completing education and communicating with the outside world, imposing financial fines on prisoners and confiscating their financial allocations, leading to the non-release of these prisoners after the expiration of their sentence periods of time issued according to the arbitrary Israeli judicial rulings and their conversion to the so-called “open detention” which in many cases continues for years beyond the duration of the original arbitrary court ruling.
The source continued: The Syrian Arab Republic calls on the relevant United Nations institutions to expose these Israeli practices and calls on them to exercise their mandates and powers in this field and to confront the Israeli occupation authorities and expose the truth about what they are committing of violations to the international law and humanitarian law against thousands of Palestinian and Syrian prisoners and detainees, including women and innocent children.
