People’s Assembly condemns Pelosi’s provocative visit to Taiwan

Damascus, (ST) – The People’s Assembly condemned in the strongest terms the provocative visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan in early August.

In a statement, which SANA received a copy of on Wednesday, the People’s Assembly stressed that this visit is a flagrant violation and unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of the People’s Republic of China. “This visit aims to strengthen divisions and escalate tension in the region, a policy that the United States of America has always pursued in cooperation with its Western allies in all countries that do not agree with its policies”, the Assembly added.

In its statement, the Assembly affirmed the one irreplaceable principle “One China” and that Taiwan is an essential and inalienable part of Chinese territory, and that the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government that represents China.

The Assembly pointed out that all attempts to change the course of history and support the separatists in Taiwan will only result in utter failure, because there is no alternative to the shining historical truth, which is the inevitable return of Taiwan to the motherland, “People’s Republic of China.”
