Russia will suggest to China establishing a new free trade zone

Russian Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexei Chekunkov has revealed that his country will suggest to China the idea of establishing a free trade zone in Bolshoi Ussuriysky Island.

Russia Today website quoted the Russian minister as saying on Wednesday that the idea will be put forward during the Eastern Economic Forum, which will be held between September 5th and 8th in the Russian city of Vladivostok and in which China will take part.

“I think that one of the interesting ambitious projects is establishing a new border free trade complex in Bolshoi Ussuriysky Island. This complex can be used as a place for exchanging goods and as an international area for advanced economic and social development similar to Khorgos, the Chinese-Kazakh Center for Border Cooperation,” Chekunkov clarified.

Bolshoi Ussuriysky Island on the Amur River has an area of about 250 square km between Russia and China.
