Ershidi: America violates international law and the Charter of the United Nations by supporting terrorists in northern Syria

New York, (ST) – Iran’s ambassador and assistant representative to the United Nations, Zahra Ershidi affirmed that the United States is violating international law and the Charter of the United Nations through its continuous support for terrorist groups and the occupation of the areas in northeastern Syria.

Iran’s Fars News Agency quoted Ershidi as saying in a speech during the UN Security Council meeting on political and humanitarian developments in Syria that it is necessary to provide humanitarian aid to Syria, and political circumstances should not prevent the delivery of humanitarian aid to the needy. She added that this measure should be carried out with full respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity of Syria.

Ershidi called for the abolition of unilateral coercive measures against Syria, which impede the delivery of aid to the Syrian people and the reconstruction.

With regard to the political process in Syria, she reiterated Iran’s firm and principled position and said that, “the crisis in Syria must be resolved peacefully in accordance with the principles of international law.

Irshidi referred to the tripartite meeting of the presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey within the framework of the Astana formula in Tehran on the 28th of last July, in which there was firm commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria.

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations condemned the recent attacks by the Zionist entity on Syria and said that this entity continues to violate Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and to carry out terrorist attacks against civilians and infrastructure inside it.

“Iran strongly condemns the continuation of these attacks and recognizes Syria’s legitimate right to respond on the basis of law”, Irshidi added.

Irshaidi stressed the need for the Security Council to abandon double standards and to explicitly condemn the Israeli entity’s attacks and terrorist attacks on Syrian territory, which are a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and international laws.

Irshadi indicated that Iran, as a responsible country, and in line with its international obligations, continues its efforts to support the Syrian government in the fight against terrorism.
