Vatican City – A peaceful resolution to the crisis in Syria must be found quickly through thoughtful negotiation, Pope Francis urged on Wednesday, according to agencies.
Speaking at his weekly general audience to about 40,000 people gathered in St. Peter’s Square, the pope called for “dialogue and negotiation, respecting justice and dignity,” in order to bring an end to the crisis in Syria. His remarks came just days before Saturday’s United Nations World Day of Peace, held each year on September 21 to draw international attention to conflicts and crises around the globe.
My thoughts go especially to the dear people of Syria, whose crisis can only be resolved through dialogue and negotiation, with respect for justice and the dignity of every person, especially the weakest and most defenceless,” Francis said.
